1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using Matinee ("the Service"), including our mobile application and website, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, you may not use the Service.

2. Description of Service

Matinee is a movie tracking and social discovery platform that allows you to:

  • Log and rate movies you have watched
  • Write reviews and maintain a personal movie diary
  • Create and manage a watchlist and Hall of Fame collection
  • Connect with friends to share movie recommendations and see their activity
  • Discover new movies through personalized recommendations, trending lists, and friend activity

The Service is currently available as a web-based waitlist page and will be available as a mobile application on iOS and Android.

3. User Accounts

  • You must provide accurate, complete, and current information when creating an account.
  • You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials.
  • You must be at least 13 years old to create an account and use the Service.
  • Each person may maintain only one account. Duplicate accounts may be suspended or terminated.
  • You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account.

4. User Content

"User Content" refers to any content you create through the Service, including movie ratings, reviews, recommendations, and profile information.

  • You retain ownership of your User Content, but grant Matinee a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to use, display, and distribute your User Content within the Service.
  • You are solely responsible for the content of your reviews and recommendations. Content must not be defamatory, obscene, harassing, or otherwise objectionable.
  • We reserve the right to remove any User Content that violates these Terms or is otherwise harmful to the community.

5. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service for any illegal purpose or in violation of any applicable laws
  • Harass, abuse, or harm other users through the platform
  • Create fake accounts or impersonate any person or entity
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service, other accounts, or our systems
  • Use automated scripts, bots, or scrapers to access the Service
  • Interfere with or disrupt the integrity or performance of the Service
  • Post spam, unsolicited promotions, or misleading content in reviews or recommendations

6. Third-Party Content and Services

6.1 TMDB (The Movie Database)

Matinee uses the TMDB API to provide movie information, including titles, descriptions, posters, cast and crew data, and other metadata. This product uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB.

  • All movie data, images, and related content sourced from TMDB are the property of their respective owners and are subject to TMDB's Terms of Use.
  • Movie posters, backdrops, and other media displayed within the Service are provided by TMDB and are copyrighted by their respective studios and distributors.
  • Matinee does not claim ownership of any movie data or media provided through TMDB.

6.2 Third-Party Links

The Service may contain links to third-party websites or services that are not owned or controlled by Matinee. We are not responsible for the content, privacy policies, or practices of any third-party sites or services.

7. Intellectual Property

  • The Matinee name, logo, illustrations, and design elements are the property of Matinee and are protected by intellectual property laws.
  • You may not copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works based on the Service or its content without our prior written consent.
  • The Service's comic-style illustrations and visual assets are original works and may not be reproduced without permission.

8. Privacy

Your use of the Service is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which describes how we collect, use, and protect your personal information.

9. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your account and access to the Service at any time, with or without cause, with or without notice. Upon termination:

  • Your right to use the Service will immediately cease
  • We may delete your account data in accordance with our Privacy Policy
  • You may request an export of your movie log data prior to account deletion

10. Disclaimers

  • The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied.
  • We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or timeliness of movie data provided through the TMDB API.
  • We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of viruses or other harmful components.
  • Movie recommendations are generated algorithmically and based on user preferences. We do not guarantee the suitability of any recommended content.

11. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Matinee and its creators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to loss of data, loss of profits, or business interruption, arising from your use of or inability to use the Service.

12. Changes to Terms

We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. We will notify users of material changes by updating the "Last updated" date and, where appropriate, providing in-app notification. Your continued use of the Service after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
